BACKSTAGE WITH JOAN

WITH JOAN BACKSTAGE BIRMINGHAM HIPPODROME

I finally made it to Birmingham on Saturday evening the 8th to catch Joan in "Dick Whittington" at The Hippodrome. Joan looked fabulous in the show, which had more than it's fair share of glitz and glamour. Apart from Joan's wonderful costumes designed by Hugh Durrant, there was no shortage of sequins and feathers, mainly from Julian Clary whose feathers came from Paris, famous for the Lido and Moulin Rouge shows. A few feather and fan dancers also appear that would not be out of place in Las Vegas in Donn Arden's Jubilee, one of my favourite classic Vegas shows! Apart from been her ultra glamorous self, Joan was in high camp mode, singing the classic "I Want To Be Evil" while carried around ala Eartha By toplees male dancers! Joan played it to the hilt Sat night as her grandchildren Miel and Weston were in the audience accompanied by their mother Joan's daughter Tara. I was delighted to spend some time after the show with Joan backstage as she entertained her grandkids and Tara. Joan as you can see from these photos was full of life and looking sensational, even after performing in two shows that day. The show runs till January 30th, so do catch it while you can!!

    Theatre 101: STAGE MAKE UP
Due to powerful stage lights and vast distances between the performers and the audience, actors use dramatic stage make up to be "read" by audiences many metres away. From a distance, stage make up looks natural. It is not supposed to be viewed or photographed from close up. Joan's make up is no thicker than any other stage performer. It is actually applied better. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONTEXT BEFORE YOU MAKE COMMENTS.

  3. Hello! while it's great people take the time to comment I am amazed that certain people would go to the bother of viewing a site totally devoted to someone and then proceed to be nasty about them. While everyone is perfectly entitled to their opinion and god knows there are plenty of "so called stars" I have plenty to bitch about, there are simply not enough hours in the day to bother! Joan has worked in the entertainment media for 60 years and continues to be employed. She is still out there and love her or hate her she is a survivor and does what she can to keep the Joan Collins image going. People have come to expect Joan to look a certain way and she tries to maintain that look. Long may she continue to entertain us.. If anyone out there does not like her that's fine. But try not to constantly brag about it here.. Mark.x

  4. Too right! Joan would NEVER be so nasty about ANYONE (Linda Evans, for example - Daily Mail, 14th July 2007...the nastiest, bitchiest article in which Joan shows her true colours!).

As for "long may she continue to entertain us", well I give her five years tops! Any more bets??

  5. Hello Again.. What comments Joan makes about others is up to her..At least she put her name to any comments she makes. By the way is Anonymus your surname or your Christian name? For however many years Joan has left I am sure she will try and keep herself out there. As for betting.. she has hundreds of hours of film and TV that will continue to entertain many, when she is gone, whether certain people like it or not. Thanking you.. mark.x
